Year 3

Welcome

In Year 3 at Bank End Primary Academy, we will deliver an education with character through a broad and balanced curriculum. We incorporate the school’s values into every aspect of teaching and learning to provide children with the vital skills they need in order to make good progress in terms of their educational, social, moral, cultural and spiritual development. At Bank End, we believe in nurturing the whole child and giving children the tools they need to be successful throughout their primary education and in later life. We teach children to be confident, ambitious, resilient, creative, determined, respectful and enthusiastic in their learning and to apply these skills to solve problems and face challenges. Through everything we do, we aim to inspire a love of learning in the children which raises aspirations and prepares them for a happy and successful future.

Intent

The curriculum shows progression across the year to support children to achieve their potential, becoming responsible and reflective learners. Maths is taught systematically following the White Rose Maths scheme, which enables children to become fluent in reasoning and solving problems.

Children are introduced to a variety of high-quality texts through Guided Reading and English lessons. Adults read to them frequently and they have opportunities to read to an adult throughout the day. This system develops fluent, confident readers and promotes a love of reading in all children.

During Year 3, children will have the opportunity to:

  • create a cave painting and a picture of a Stone Age dwelling using natural materials.

  • sing a Spanish song

  • make and taste healthy soup

  • perform in an online “virtual” Christmas concert

  • make a photo frame for a present

  • take part in an Olympic games

  • create a portfolio of writing across various genres

  • put on a shadow puppet show

Supporting your child to read

At Bank End we ask that every child reads at home for a minimum of 10 minute everyday and brings their reading book back into school daily. This serve as the core of children's home learning as reading is the key to success in all areas of the curriculum.
