Year 5 have tackled the issues surrounding keeping online social media profiles private by discussing what information in relevant and suitable for everyone to see. We discusses the idea first then created a character and gave them an identity. We then talked about which of the details were suitable for public viewing and which details should stay private. After this the children created a poster highlighting what we had surmised. The children were so engaged, they have designed lots more!

Visitor to Year 5

Year 5 had a visitor this week: Mr Robinson, a secondary science teacher from Barnsley Academy who had a primary placement as part of his teaching course. Being an avid sound enthusiast, Mr Robinson taught a brilliant, fun lesson on how we hear and then enabled the children to learn from a practical investigation. The children had to make a walkie-talkie from cups and string then test these out. After they had done this,  the children wrote a short explanation, drew then annotated a diagram about what they had done.

Year 5 children have had a wonderful week of Bikeability learning how to ride their bikes. Some children borrowed bikes and helmets from the visitors while others brought their own. Skills such as recognising hazards on the road, passing parked vehicles and turning in and out of side roads were tested and those children who demonstrated these to the fore achieved Level 1 and even the harder Level 2. We were blessed with good weather this year so the participants were guaranteed a good week! I would like to give a big clap of congratulations to the 10 children who passed Level 1 and the 15 other who achieved Level 2; well done!
