Fantastic Authors

Dawn Bullen 0 35

Over the last few weeks we have been writing our own versions of The Gruffalo. We have completed our initial drafts and worked in pairs to peer assessment, check and improve our stories. We look forward to producing our books and illustrating our stories.

Meeting Florence Nightingale

Dawn Bullen 0 58

Year 2 had an amazing time on their trip to the medical museum, where they got to meet Florence Nightingale. They discussed and recorded adjectives to describe what a nurse should be like before moving onto looking at a range of objects and deciding if they belong in a dirty hospital or a clean one. They learned about the life of Florence Nightingale and the timeline from her birth to today. They then took on the role of nurses and porters and travelling back in time to the Crimean War. Here they cleaned up the hospital and took care of an injured soldier before travelling back to 2018.

The Gruffalo

This week we have focused on the story of the Gruffalo. On Monday we made character masks using tissue paper, pencils and felts. On Tuesday we worked in small teams to learn and act out the story. We then focused on creating story maps of the story to help us know it off by heart.

A Royal Celebration

Dawn Bullen 0 59

This week ended with an amazing celebration of the upcoming royal wedding. We started the day learning about the royal family - who they are, what they are called and how they are related. We complete the Royal family tree. Then we moved onto writing our own royal wedding invitations. During the afternoon we had a carousel of Royal activities including making crowns, making flags and eating jam scones.
