This week it has been all about the Arts for the children in Year 1. We arrived back to school on Tuesday to find a chest of very old fashioned belongings. After some careful research we discovered these belonged to William Shakespeare and enjoyed learning about who Shakespeare was and the important part he had to play in our history. The children enjoyed learning about what it was like to be a writer hundreds of years ago and had a go at using a real quill to write. The children were also inspired by the Shakespeare play ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ to turn some traditional tales into plays. The children really shone at this and we definitely have some budding actors and actresses already! In other areas of learning the children have been finding out about artist Andy Goldsworthy, an artist who only uses natural materials in his pictures and sculptures. Children have enjoyed exploring natural materials found in our outside environment to make their own pictures and patterns.
