Our School Council supports the Bank End Community in becoming a better place to learn, laugh and grow together.

The School Council, which represents the pupil voice in school, has just had another successful term, the focus of which was raising some money for itself, and the schools chosen charity, Cancer Research UK. The £236.40 raised from our fun reading dress up day, reading quiz, and Easter Fayre Cafe, will be split equally between the charity and school. This means that this half term the School Council will be focussing its work on what to spend the money on, and how to continue to raise funds for itself.

The School Council has a treasurer, who will be meeting with Mrs Higgins, the School Business Manager, so there will be report from him for School Council. The secretary will continue to take the minutes of the meetings, which are usually held once a fortnight, and we will be exploring ways of getting the minutes, along with the agendas, onto the School Council blog.

The most important work though is getting all the views and opinions of the pupils and other people in school, and finding a way to do things that support the school and the children in becoming the best that they can be. So this term School Council will be doing some of Miss Bowers assemblies with her to make sure that the whole school is informed on what is going on, and they will also continue to meet with the class councils that have been set up in every class this last term.

Something else that School Council will be thinking about this term is Enterprise. The Council members have done questionnaires with their class teachers, they will also be talking to the pupils, and looking at ways of finding out what parents and carers think about it, so that this interesting and fun area of the school curriculum can continue to grow from strength to strength.

 Our Vision  Our Constitution

Vision
Our School Council supports the Bank End Community in Becoming a better place to learn, laugh and grow together.

Our Purpose
We are here to be the voice of the pupils, to work in partnership with others in the Barnsley community and raise money to support our school.

Our Members
We have 2 elected representatives from each year group from year 2 to year 6. Each year vote at the end of the Summer term from those that put themselves forward. There is 1 boy and 1 girl from each year.
For EYFS and year 1, children in year 5 or 6 who wish to represent the younger children write to the staff and EYFS/year 1 children who then decide who they would like to represent them. There are 2 representative for year 1, and 3 representatives for EYFS.
The Deputy Head is the link teacher for school staff.
If a representative is on the sanction board above stage 4 then the rest of school council vote as to whether they should stay as a council member.
If they are on the sanction board 3 times in a term, or if they are absent for 3 meetings in a term, for whatever reasons, their class can decide whether they should stay as their representative.

Executive Board
On the board there is a Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice-secretary. They can be any council representative, and are voted for by the school council.

Meetings
Meetings will be held at least fortnightly. They will usually be in the afternoon, and held in the staff room.
The meetings can go ahead as long as at least 2 members of the Executive board are present. There needs to be at least 8 members of council at the meeting for it to be quorum.
During a meeting we will stay focussed on Agenda items and not discuss individual pupils or adults.
Decisions will be made by a majority vote.

Finances
School council will have some funds from the school budget, which we will increase through fundraising events. We will only spend money on things that the school want such as trips and events, or resources for indoors and outdoors.
