Reading for Accelerating Learning

Dear parents and carers

We would like you to invite you to join in with a very exciting piece of work we are doing.  Over 5 sessions after the holidays we are holding a group meeting to help parents and carers understand how to get the very best out of supporting children with their phonics and reading.  At Bank End we believe that reading is the key to success in all other areas of learning.  We also believe that parents and carers can hugely accelerate their child (ren’s) learning if they understand how to support reading at home.

The meetings will be held in school time run from 9.15am-11.15am (day to be confirmed) There will be a crèche for your younger children and an opportunity for you to learn and have fun.  Refreshments will be provided and there is absolutely no cost for the course or crèche.

This opportunity should not be missed.

Click the image on the left or the link below to print a copy, fill in the slip at the bottom and return it ASAP.

Many thanks for your continued support-Because together we WILL make a difference!

Y3 Reading Challenge

This week some of us completed our Year Three Bronze Reading Challenge. These children are now working hard to achieve the Silver Award.

Year 4 – reading like breathing…

Year 4 are discovering that reading really is fun! This week we are preparing to be librarians, sorting out all of our books in our class library and designing library cards.  Our ‘Book of the week’ is Hans Christian Anderson’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.

Children should be able to read like they can breathe…

Please remember to check that your child/children are fetching their reading books home with them for the holidays and encourage them to keep reading.
Once they get a love of reading it is easy to encourage them but lots of hard work and patience needs to be in place for this to happen.
Sharing books is also important and reading magazines,  instructions on games and even the back of the cereal packet will help your child become more fluent with reading.

READ-READ-READ-READ DON’T FORGET TO READ

Reading is the key to learning success…take 3 times per week it’s the best medicine for learning!

Children should be able to read like they can breathe!

Our recent assessment cycle is showing that a large majority of our children are making accelerated progress. For example, in writing most children have made one year’s progress since December. That is down to a fantastic team effort on the part of school staff and families so thank you.
The weakest progress is in reading and so we want to make a huge effort to make improvements in this subject before the summer. Please make sure that your child reads at least 3 times a week for ten minutes. Please ask the staff in the class for a reading book if your child has not got one and in KS1 please make sure that you bring your book bags to school every day.
