Perfect Paragraphs in Y2

This week Y2 have been learning how to write ‘Perfect Paragraphs’ and how to use connectives to make it flow.  The perfect paragraph plans are either 3 or 5 sentences and have a topic sentence and concluding sentence.  We are doing this so that eventually, we can write a non-chronological report.  We were sent a report by an alien, who landed in our classroom by accident, that was titled ‘What are Aliens?’  So we decided to send the alien a report called ‘What are Pirates?’ to help him to understand why we had a pirate ship in our classroom!  The Alien is still asleep in our pirate tent but we keep checking on him to make sure that he is OK!

Y1 are telling tales…

This week Year One have been writing stories.  We have written adventure stories involving tigers, dragons, ghosts and other sort of scary creatures.  We thought very carefully about characters and setting and plot of our stories.  We have also been writing about a little boy called Sam who has an invisible cloak and we have been thinking about the exciting things he could do with a magic cloak.

Y3 Reading Challenge

This week some of us completed our Year Three Bronze Reading Challenge. These children are now working hard to achieve the Silver Award.

Here come the Year 4 Bookworms…

Year four are already thinking about their topic for next half term – they’re all turning into worms… BOOKWORMS

READ-READ-READ-READ DON’T FORGET TO READ

Reading is the key to learning success…take 3 times per week it’s the best medicine for learning!

Children should be able to read like they can breathe!

Our recent assessment cycle is showing that a large majority of our children are making accelerated progress. For example, in writing most children have made one year’s progress since December. That is down to a fantastic team effort on the part of school staff and families so thank you.
The weakest progress is in reading and so we want to make a huge effort to make improvements in this subject before the summer. Please make sure that your child reads at least 3 times a week for ten minutes. Please ask the staff in the class for a reading book if your child has not got one and in KS1 please make sure that you bring your book bags to school every day.

Animals

In Literacy this week we are learning about animals which may become extinct if we do not look after them.  The panda is one example.
