Welcome to year 1
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would firstly like to introduce myself, my name is Miss Smith and I will be your child’s teacher as they embark on the next stage of their journey into Year 1. I am new to Bank End and am very much looking forward to meeting both your children and yourselves. I am sure that this year will be exciting and a valuable stage in your child’s learning curve. I am pleased to announce that Miss Wood, Mrs. Nogowczyk and Miss Heeley will also be highly valued members of the Year 1 team and they will be offering their support and guidance in order to aid your children in learning to the BEST of their potential. Working collaboratively will provide endless opportunities for your children to flourish and will allow the children to become consistent as they learn, laugh and grow together.
Year 1 is a very important year; it is the year that provides the children with a more structured approach to education which will allow them to take ownership of their own learning and development. During year 1 the children will become more confident and competent in reading and writing and will expand their knowledge in both Maths and Science.
I firmly believe that you, as parents, are the first and most important educators of your children and feel that it is important that support in learning is provided at home as well as at school. The most effective way to do this is to encourage your children to read at home. Reading is the underlying factor to success in all areas of the curriculum, if a child can read competently they are already half way there. Reading books will be provided regularly for you and your child to enjoy at home.
You are welcome in Year 1 and I encourage you to come into class with your child in the mornings to get involved with their morning activities. This will provide the opportunity for your child to share what they are learning and to feel proud of their achievements.
Kind Regards
Miss Kathryn Smith

Welcome to Year 6
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to welcome you to our Y6 class. I am really looking forward to taking Y6 onwards and upwards to be able to maximise their learning potential for 2011 and 2012, and I want all the children to achieve personal success in this academic year. In addition to me, your children will also be receiving support and guidance from Ms Rachael Austin in the classroom, and Ms Lisa Beecher and Mr Hickman will be assisting with their Maths and English 1-to-1 and extra booster sessions in preparation for their Y6 experience. Together we will do the best possible job we can to make sure that your children are always learning, laughing and growing together.
Year 6 is a very important year for learning; it is the year when children bring all their prior learning together to be able to achieve the highest academic level possible before they begin their secondary education phase. By now they should be working towards being proficient in all areas, and particularly in reading, writing and maths. To ensure that the children become the best that they can be, it is important that support in all three areas is being provided at home as well as at school. This may include: listening to your child read at home, helping them with any homework and generally taking an interest in what they are doing in school.
Year 6 is a challenging year for your child so please be as supportive as you can and together we will work hard to give them the best education available! If you need any help or advice on what you can do to help, do not hesitate to contact me at school or through Mrs Thorpe.
Best wishes,
Mr Dan Cooper

Homework
Dear children of Y6,
I am delighted to give you your new homework packs because homework is brilliant! By doing homework you get an opportunity to practise what you are learning in school and it helps you to develop organisational skills that will stand you in good stead for the future (especially next year)!
The homework packs will also show the grown-ups at home what you are learning in school so that they can help you to learn even more.

Welcome to Nursery
Dear Parents / Carers,
I would like to say a big hello to everyone who is new to nursery and say welcome back to familiar faces. I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. Nursery and Reception work as a Foundation Stage Unit so as well as me, Mrs Jenni Healey and Mrs Jenny Cutts, your children will be supported by the Recepetion team – Mrs Vicki Siddons and Miss Natalie Wawrosz.
Nursery is an important year where children learn through their play. In addition to offering the children indoor play we give them access to the outdoor area in all weathers. We therefore ask that you ensure your children are suitably dressed for the weather and to provide a pair of wellies to stay at school.
To ensure that your child fulfils their true potential it is important that they are supported at home as well as at school. Your child will benefit from you taking every opportunity to talk to them. This can be about things you see and hear in the environment such as animals, numbers, letters, sounds…
Kind Regards,
Miss Hardman – Nursery Teacher

The new homework packs should help us to make our team work together even more effective. Please read through the homework pack carefully with your child. We will also go through the packs in class so that the children are familiar with them.

Dear Y2,
Because I love seeing you grow and develop every single day at school and feel honoured to witness your fantastic brains ticking away, I think that it is now time to let people at home be part of the fun too! As a result, you are now part of the ‘home learning crew’ where your hardworking minds don’t have to stop at the end of the school day, but can carry on buzzing at home as well!
Your home learning challenges, set every Friday, will always support your learning in school which is why it is so important because remember; practise makes perfect! I will be giving you things to practise at home that we are learning in class, including practise for spelling, times tables and a variety of reading books to enjoy. Reading regularly at home is SO important!! In Y2 we love to read because it can help our brains in all sorts of ways to support us along our Y2 learning experience!
You are all at your own unique places on your learning journey at the moment and all need help to get you where you want to be by the end of your year 2 adventure. Parents and carers are a fantastic help when it comes to giving you the push that you need to begin your own climb. They care about your learning and they will be a great reminder to you if you forget to care for yourself. You may not always want their help but you must show them what you have done as they have eagle eyes and might spot problems or mistakes that you have missed.
Because I value your hard work I will be giving you a star sticker to add to your home learning rewards card. If you get 3 stars, you will be able to choose from a variety of rewards in class. If you get 6 stars then you get the chance to visit Mrs Thorpe and see what fantastic rewards she has to celebrate your hard work and ticking brain!
Good luck with it and make yourself proud!
Miss Wright

Reception is an important and vital year for learning; it is the year when children learn through play exploring their senses and having a range of experiences both indoors and outdoors. This is why we ask you to send your children in appropriate clothing, being fully aware that your child will play both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Could you provide your child with a pair of wellies to keep at school so that they can change into them when needed, saving their lovely school shoes for longer.
