Message from the governing body |
| Healthy Schools Initiative | As part of the Governments drive to promote healthy diets, I am writing to inform you that from Monday 7th April after the Easter Holidays, the children will no longer be able to bring crisps or any type of snack from home to eat at break times. This will bring us into line with other Barnsley Primary Schools. We are currently working towards the Healthy Schools Silver Award which is a Government led initiative. We will of course allow the children occasional treats such as celebrating children’s birthdays, Christmas time and Easter egg raffle etc. We run a breakfast club every morning with a wide variety of healthy options from 8am which costs 50p per day and at lunch time we provide the children with several healthy choices. Packed lunches are not affected. Foundation stage children are provided with a healthy snack and a piece of fruit every day | | The children in Key Stage 1 are provided every morning with a piece of fruit funded by the lottery. | | We are currently looking at ways of providing a healthy snack for children at Key Stage Two which will hopefully be up and running after Easter. Thank you for your cooperation | | Worsbrough Bank End Governing Body | | | |

Shool Holiday School re-opens Monday 18th February 2008 Building Security I regret to inform you that we have had a number of thefts of school property and an attempted break in recently which we have reported to the police. We are trying hard to enforce new security measures such as tightening up access via the front door and keeping external doors closed as much as possible on the advice of the police. Please help us by cooperating and using the correct access points when collecting and dropping off children. If you have money to pay for dinners, trips etc please come through the front door. School Uniform
School uniform is worn by all children, including our nursery children from January 2006. It comprises of:
• Black or Grey skirt or trousers (NOT jeans).
If you have already bought Navy skirts or trousers the children can still wear them but we are phasing Navy out of the school uniform because of difficulties in obtaining Navy trousers/skirts
• Navy sweatshirt, cardigan or jumper • White polo shirt. • Sensible shoes or trainers (NOT large heels, platforms or roller trainers)
In the summer: • Girls may choose to wear a blue/white checked dress.
Physical Education: • Shorts • White T-shirt
Jewellery such as rings, bracelets, necklaces etc. should not be worn to school, ear studs may be worn at your risk provided your child is able to remove them for PE. For safety reasons all jewellery must be removed for swimming, games and PE. For this reason please do not have your child’s ears pierced in term time. Please only have ears pierced at the beginning of summer holidays so that ears are healed in time for return to school.
We ask that all items of clothing be clearly marked with your child’s name as items are often misplaced and we understand the cost of replacing clothes frequently. Lost property will be stored for a term in the lost property box, please ask if you think we may have an item belonging to your child. Bank End Primary School accept no responsibility for lost property.
Thank you Head Teacher M.Tapp

The annual league tables have been produced showing the results from all the primary schools in the area. The schools are listed within each local authority (LA) in three ways: Alphabetically, ranked on the "contextual value added" score, and ranked on the combined or "aggregate" score achieved in the three tests. The results relate to the percentage of the pupils eligible to take the tests who achieved Level 4 or above - the standard expected for their age. | | The contextual value added score shows how well the school performed in with regard to the results that are expected from the scores the children had at Key Stage 1. If all of the children achieve their tatget level then the scool's score is 100(%). Bankend produced a score of 100.2, meaning that the number of our children achieving level 4 exceeded expectation at the end of Key Stage 2. | | The table shows that we are in the top 25% of the 88 schools in Barnsley when it comes to our students achieving their potential. Well done tio all those that worked so hard to achieve this. | | Click Here to see the table | |

On Wednesday 7th November nine children from Mrs Croud’s Year 2 class took part in The Barnsley Academy partnership’s Multiskills Event held after school. Also taking part was Kendray and The Edmunds Primary Schools.
The children had to do activities such as balancing a ball on a tennis raquet, weaving between obstacles, throw balls into scoring hoops and throw and catch a football as many times as they could in 3minutes. Despite our team only having nine members and the other schools having at least 14 team members in the competition, we emerged victorious with 355 points (beating the others by over 40 points) winning the golden cup for the school! A big well done to all the children for their marvellous efforts and thanks to their parents for their support! |
