This week the celebrations we have been learning about are Bonfire night and Diwali. The children talked about what they had seen, heard, tasted and smelt on bonfire night. We then made bonfire night pictures using black paper and chalk. The children also made a guy fawkes with junk modelling and made a ‘bonfire’ outside using the construction materials.
For Diwali we read the story about Rama and Sita and the children enjoyed acting it out using masks. The children made Diva lamps using clay and made Rangoli patterns using chalk, paint and crayons. The children loved making sweets for Diwali called Gulab jambu – we all sat and ate the sweets together, the children said they tasted “fluffy, soft and sweet”.
This week has been disguises week. We talked to the children about what it means to get disguised and showed them some of the outfits that we have in EYFS for them to wear. They tried different outfits on (such as a doctor or a princess) and acted out being that person. We also used ICT to disguise some of the children in EYFS putting glasses, wigs and funny ears onto their pictures. The other children then had to guess who it was and they had a go at disguising the pictures on the interactive white board.
We ended the week and the Marvellous Me topic with a disguises day where the children dressed up and made masks. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all of the parents that came, it was lovely to see you and the children really enjoyed having you in to help them make a mask.
This week has been faces week. We have used 2D and 3D shapes to make faces, we have also made faces using paint, play dough and coloured pencils.
During circle time the children talked about what makes them happy and what makes them sad and we made happpy, sad, angry, confused faces at each other.
The children really enjoyed making pizzas this week and they used the toppings to make happy faces!
This week we have enjoyed playing out in the rain! We put on our waterproof trousers, coats and wellies and went jumping in puddles! The children then used their initiative to wash their dirty wellies in the water from the drainpipe!
This week we have been learning about 3D shapes so if you hear your children talking about a ‘boy cube’ and a ‘sophia’ you will know that they are talking about a cuboid and a sphere. The children have done really with 3D and 2D shapes and it is pleasing to hear that some of you have been practising the shape names at home.
Congratulations Dylon,
You are our star of the week. There are many reasons that you have been chosen for this very special mention. One of the reasons is your good positive attitude to learning. You concentrate well during carpet time and follow our three golden carpet rules; good sitting, good listening and good looking. You have worked very well in our phonics sessions this week helping Freddie sort out which words begin with the sound ‘d’.
You are a very clever boy Dylon who enjoys learning in all the areas of the foundation unit. He enjoys reading books especially about trucks; he enjoys painting, number work and learning outside. Well done Dylon. Keep up the good work.
All the adults in foundation stage are very proud of you. Well done!!!
This week has been ‘looking’ week. We have been learning the names and properties of 2D shapes. We went on a shape walk in the local environment. The children pointed out lots of shapes such as: a car wheel being a circle, a warning sign being a triangle, a house door being a rectangle and a window that was square.
This week we have also been making bread from scratch. Once the bread had been baked in the oven and cooled they all got to taste some with butter on – they thought it was yummy!

Dear Bradley,
Congratulations you are Reception class star of the week. There are lots of reasons Bradley why you have been chosen to be our shiny star. You are a very very friendly boy to be around Bradley and you always manage to make your friends smile. Your manners towards other children and adults are terrific. You are a very polite young man…but the greatest reason of all is that you are a super role model!
Bradley enjoys learning in all areas of the foundation unit. He enjoys reading books, writing, number work, painting and his junk modelling creations are excellent. He really thinks about what he wants to create before he starts and sets out to complete his task. Bradley also loves learning outdoors especially in our digging and investigation area. He is becoming a very inquisitive young man who is not afraid to ask questions. All the adults in the foundation stage unit are very proud of you. Well Done!
Dear Elanor,
Well done for being Receptions ‘star of the week’ and being in our schools celebration assembly.
You are in our assembly for many reasons! You have been a part of our nursery for a long time now and Miss Hardman has told me how extremely lucky I am to have you in my class. I have not been disappointed!
You have settled in extremely well into the setting. You are coming into school in the morning ready and excited to do your writing task with your Mum. You can write your name already so you are working really hard at writing words that we have in our reading area. You are really using the different parts of the classroom to help you with your learning. Well done for this.
You are becoming a really good role model for the other children in our class and the children in our Nursery. You show good sitting, listening and looking all the time and really follow our class motto of ‘choose it, use it, put it away!’ you are helping the others tidy up and be responsible for taking care of our equipment and classroom.
Well done and keep working hard Elanor. I’m really proud of you!
Mrs Siddons
In EYFS this week we have been learning how to use the computers in our setting. We are learning how to log on and open a programme up. We have also been using the mouse and keyboard.
Parents: This is part of the EYFS curriculum. If your child uses any form of ICT at home, such as a Nintento DS, a laptop, a PC, DVD player or CD player, let us know and bring us a photo too.
Also in EYFS this week, we have introduced the children to our ‘Junk Modelling’ area. This area is where the children use various pieces of ‘JUNK’ to create something exciting and original using their imaginations. We made musical instruments this week as part of listening week.
Please bring in any reclaimed materials such as yogurt pots, cereal and other food boxes, plastic cartons, plastic bottles and milk top lids. This really helps us out and allows us to let the children use this area every day.
We have really enjoyed our reading area this week too. We can come into this area at any time during the day and read quietly by ourselves or enjoy a good book with our friends! Our sound books help us to recognise sounds and objects that begin with that sound. You can help with this at home.
Reception’s sounds this week- m d g and o
Please help yourselves to our books from the EYFS Library. These can be found in both the Nursery and reception entrances. Just sign the books in and out as you borrow them. Enjoy.
Each child has a key worker in Nursery and reception. You should have had a letter sent home explaining all about your key worker and their role within the setting. Just look in the cloakroom to see your child’s key worker. We are here if you need anything.
Remember…………………….. We learn, laugh and grow together!
NEXT WEEK………………………its ‘Looking week’. We will be playing lots of physical ball games requiring hand eye co-ordination, playing I spy, writing poems about what we can see, making alphabet cards for our opticians and making glittering glasses to sell in the pharmacy!
Dear Mark
Congratulations, you are the “star of the week” in Reception Class and we are all really proud of you and your work.
You have been a part of our Nursery for a while now, but you have coped extremely well with all the changes that we have put in front of you over the past six months. You were very shy with the adults in the setting to start off with, However since joining Reception last week, I have seen a sensible and very grown up Mark come back from the holidays.
You are showing an example to all the other new little children. You are showing them how to tidy up and where to put things away. You really have been a super star.
You are showing good listening, looking and sitting during all of our carpet sessions and you are participating much more now in front of all your friends. I can’t wait to see you develop your confidence over the next few months.
Keep up the hard work. Well done.
Mrs Siddons
We are learning all about ourselves as babies, our parents and families and our bodies. We are thinking about our 5 senses and will investigate one each week. We are thinking about TOUCH this week!!
Nursery have been using feely boxes. We have been guessing whats inside by using our sense of touch.

Our role play area this half term is our local doctors surgery. We have been making appointments, waiting in the waiting room and been doctors and nurses and taking care of each other! We have been practising our reading and writing skills by writing prescriptions and medical forms.
We have set up a pharmacy where we can buy and sell medicines to make us better!!! This is really helping us with our numbers!!
We eat a healthy snack of fruit and milk in EYFS. We go into the snack area, wash our hands, find our name and eat our snack! We also bake each week and eat our yummy biscuit or bun on a Friday.

We ask for a contribution of 50p a week towards baking and other extra treats that we create for the children.
We start at 8.45 prompt!!! We invite you to come inside and join your child in a writing task!!! This may be writing their name, a new sound or their numbers to 20. We saw a huuuggggeeeeee improvement in the children who came into school and wrote something every morning!! Please join us, we love to see you!

Welcome to Nursery
Dear Parents / Carers,
I would like to say a big hello to everyone who is new to nursery and say welcome back to familiar faces. I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. Nursery and Reception work as a Foundation Stage Unit so as well as me, Mrs Jenni Healey and Mrs Jenny Cutts, your children will be supported by the Recepetion team – Mrs Vicki Siddons and Miss Natalie Wawrosz.
Nursery is an important year where children learn through their play. In addition to offering the children indoor play we give them access to the outdoor area in all weathers. We therefore ask that you ensure your children are suitably dressed for the weather and to provide a pair of wellies to stay at school.
To ensure that your child fulfils their true potential it is important that they are supported at home as well as at school. Your child will benefit from you taking every opportunity to talk to them. This can be about things you see and hear in the environment such as animals, numbers, letters, sounds…
Kind Regards,
Miss Hardman – Nursery Teacher

Welcome to Reception
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to say hello, and welcome you to our Reception class. I can’t wait to start teaching your children in this next academic year, it is sure to be an exciting journey for all concerned. In addition to myself, your children will also be receiving support and guidance from Miss Natalie Wawrosz, Mrs. Jenny Cutts and Mrs. Burnett throughout their Reception experience. Together we will do the best possible job we can to make sure that you children are always learning, laughing and growing together.
Reception is an important and vital year for learning; it is the year when children learn through play exploring their senses and having a range of experiences both indoors and outdoors. This is why we ask you to send your children in appropriate clothing, being fully aware that your child will play both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Could you provide your child with a pair of wellies to keep at school so that they can change into them when needed, saving their lovely school shoes for longer. To ensure that the children become the best that they can be, it is important that support in all three areas is being provided at home as well as at school. This may include: listening to your child read at home, learning the numbers to 20 or just simply singing the alphabet or saying sounds just before bed. Feel free to come into class with your child in the mornings to get involved with their morning activities. These will change daily to cover a variety of basic skills and I’m sure your children would love to show you what they can do already! J
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Siddons.
Teddy Bears Fun and Frolics!
EYFS invited parents in this week to come and see for themselves all the fun and learning that takes place within the setting.
Parents joined in with clay modelling, painting, writing, construction, sand, water, reading and even hoola hooping. The English weather (typically) let us down so we had to have our picnic inside!! it didn’t spoil the fun though. Thank you to all parents that cam along, we really enjoyed having you join us.
