Year 2 Safeguarding Superheroes

Year 2 have been learning all about the different ways that we can make ourselves feel safe. In school we have looked at the things we do everyday and why they are important. The children have designed their own safeguarding superheroes and posters to help younger children in school. Some of our class have also created posters of how we can stay safe at school as well.

Kelham Island Visit

The children had a fantastic time visiting Kelham Island museum today. They all looked fantastic in their evacuee costumes! They took part in a range of activities that helped them to understand what life was like living in England during the Second World War. They experienced an air raid in a shelter, trained to be Home Guard soldiers and fire wardens. As well as this the children found out what it would have been like to be evacuated to the countryside. The children represented Bank End brilliantly!

Investigating Materials

As part of our science work on materials we have been thinking about why certain materials are used to make different objects. We have discussed the properties of different materials are why they are suitable for the job. We had some funny combinations on our spinners for example a metal jumper and the children could explain why this was unsuitable using the properties of metal.
