Y4 Superstar

Dear Jack,

We are really delighted to welcome you into our school! You have made a wonderful addition to the Year Four class.

You have only been with us a few days but you have already made some good friends in the class. Even though it is not easy to learn lots of new names, you have already managed to learn many of the children’s names in your new class. In addition, you have quickly adapted to our routines and now know your way around the school. Anybody would think that you had been here much longer than you have!

I have been pleased to see how well you contribute in lessons. You readily share any thoughts or knowledge you have on subjects that we are learning about. Doing this will help you to continue developing confidence and public speaking skills. Also, your sharing helps others to learn more. Keep this up!

Well done for settling in so well.

With best wishes

Mrs. Dever

A big thankyou from Y4…

Thank you to all children and families who have let our class borrow artefacts and resources to enhance the topic.

Y4 bring the museum to life…

In our role play museum we have been carrying out research for our exhibition of Ancient Egyptian gods. As artists and designers we have been making artefacts such as square based clay pyramids and Ancient Egyptian jewellery.

Y4 star of the week

Dear Ellie D,

You are what we call in our school an ‘Always Child’ because you always try your very best in everything that you do.

It’s a real pleasure to teach you. In every lesson I can see that you are giving your full attention to learning. If you keep doing this, you will continue to grow and learn lots every day.

You are also a gentle and kind person, who really cares about others. I know that you are a great friend to children in the class and that you try to make sure nobody feels left out.

Keep on shining!

With best wishes

Mrs. Dever

Y4 Star of the week

Dear Ellie S,

Congratulations on being chosen as the Year Four Star of the Week! You have been chosen for a number of reasons. Here are a couple of them:

You always show great enthusiasm with every new topic that we have in our class. Frequently you bring in resources from home to enhance our lessons. As well as this you take it upon yourself to do extra research. This week the children were fascinated to hear the extra facts that you uncovered about Tutankhamen at home.

Every day you are kind and caring to others. Lots of children value your friendship and enjoy working with you in the class. Your kindnesses to other people help to make our school a happy place to be.

Well done, Ellie!

 With best wishes

Mrs. Dever

Y4 Topic this Term is “Tomb Raiders”

As Historians we will be studying a past society called Ancient Egypt. We will be looking at factual evidence of the pyramids, mummies, pharaohs and artefacts and trying to find out the secrets of civilisation that began over 5000 years ago.

We will be finding out about Howard Carter – the original tomb raider. We will be exploring the art and statues and asking what we can find out about the past from these things.

As Geographers we will be studying

where Egypt is – describing the locality using geographical vocabulary. We will be reminding ourselves about rivers and linking this to the success of the farmers of Ancient Egypt.

As Designers and Artists we will be creating some scale models of Egyptian artefacts to display in our class role play museum. We will be using a variety of materials and tools as we make our pieces in the Ancient Egyptian style.

In our spiritual and moral development we will explore the images of the Ancient Egyptians and ask what some of the statues and symbols meant to them. We will also discover why they buried their pharaohs as mummies and why they thought they should be buried with their riches. We will learn too about Moses and the Israelite people’s exodus from Egypt.

Dear Chloe,

I have been extremely impressed with your work during our Christmas topic. You have really focussed on your learning and tried hard to do your very best

I noticed how well you have been listening this week during our class carpet times. You have been able to answer questions and have been starting to ask your own. It’s clear from all of the things that you have been doing during our topic that you have also applied your learning.

You have made some wonderful Christmas presents for people that you will be able to take home today. Each one has been completed with care and attention to detail. You have aimed to achieve a quality finishes. I am sure that the people who receive them will appreciate your efforts.

Well done, Chloe.

Y 4 Special Mention

Dear Tyler,

You really deserve this special mention. You keep on improving because you listen in lessons and take a pride in all that you do.

This term I have been particularly impressed with your progress in writing. Recently you have learned how to create complex sentences by using different subordinate conjunctions. Before you write you make thoughtful choices about the structure of sentences and text organisation. Consequently, your writing always flows well and is interesting for the reader.

Well done for all that you have achieved so far. I hope that you will keep on trying hard so that you fulfil your potential. Remember that you are a clever girl.

Y4 Christmas Topic

Our Christmas topic is called ‘Gifts’ and the story we will be focussing on is ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs. This story is about the gift of friendship.

As writers we will be using the structure of ‘The Snowman’ to invent our own stories.

As mathematicians we will be exploring tessellated shape patterns and 3D shapes created by nets. We will use our learning to create patterned Christmas wrapping paper and 3D Christmas decorations.

As scientists we will be learning about the habitats of animals that live in the Arctic and the Antarctic.

As geographers we will be finding out about the traditions for gift giving in different parts of the world.

As historians we will be learning about the original Saint Nicholas.

As wonderers we will be considering the symbolism of the Magi’s gifts to Jesus.

As designers and technologists we will be creating Christmas stockings, crackers and party hats.

As artists we will be making Christmas cards and calendars.

Y4 Special Mention

Dear Courtney,

I am so pleased to choose you as the Year Four star of the week because you have well and truly earned it!

If I ask a question to the whole class, you show with your answers that you have thought carefully and you will always explain your ideas clearly and logically. When working independently you also think deeply, checking that you are achieving your targets and challenging yourself by attempting every success criteria. As well as this you always make sure that your presentation is neat and of a high quality.

Another reason that you have been chosen as the Year Four star of the week is that you always look for the best in everyone. You are quick to forgive others and you are a friend to everyone. This has an impact on people all around you and helps to make our school a wonderful place to be.

Keep on shining. We are all very proud of you!

Y4 Enterprise

In Year Four this week we had our enterprise afternoon. Here are some of the children and adults making the boats from recycled rubbish. Thank you to all of the adults who came to support this event and make it successful. We all had a great time and there are now some wonderful creations on display in our classroom.

Y4 Special Mention

Dear Callum,

I have been extremely impressed with your work this week. You have tried hard to do your very best. I have noticed how well you have been listening during our class carpet times and all of the other grown ups who have worked with you have also said how well behaved and focussed you have been.

I have been particularly impressed with your learning in Maths. You persevered all week until you were able to read an analogue clock face and write the time in a digital way. You showed a lot of patience and you learned from your mistakes. I also saw you concentrating hard when you were building your boat for our class enterprise competition. Your efforts paid off and you won a prize for it!  I am sure that, if you continue to keep up this good learning behaviour, you will carry on learning and achieving as much as you have been doing this week.

Well done, Callum.
