Our Constitution

Our Purpose

We are here to be the voice of the pupils,

To work in partnership with others in our community

And raise money to support our school.

Our Members

We have 2 elected representatives from each year group from year 2 to year 6. Each year group vote at the end of the summer term from those children that put themselves forward. There is 1 boy and 1 girl from each year.

For EYFS and Year 1, children from year 5 or 6 who wish to represent the younger children write to the staff and children in EYFS/year 1 who then decide who they would like to have represent them. There are 2 representatives for year 2, and 3 for EYFS.

The Deputy Head is the link teacher for the school staff.

If a representative is on the sanction board at stage 4 or above then the rest of school council will decide through a vote as to whether they can stay as a member of the council.

If they are on the sanction board 3 times in a half term at stage 2 or 3 their class decide, through a vote in class council, whether they can stay as a member of school council. If a representative misses 3 meetings in a term, for whatever reason, their class will decide, through a vote in class council, whether they can stay as a member of school council.

The Officers

On the Executive Board there is a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Vice Secretary and a Treasurer. They are voted onto these roles by the school council. The vice secretary and vice chair are responsible for setting up the room and ensuring that the Y2 representatives arrive.

The Meetings

Meetings will be held at least fortnightly. They will usually be held in The Zone in an afternoon so we don’t miss our core learning. Each class will have a class council meeting between each school council meeting.

The meeting can go ahead as long as there are at least 2 members’ of the executive board present. There needs to be at least 8 representatives at a council meeting for it to be quorum, (allowed to go ahead and make decisions).

During a meeting we will stay focussed on the agenda items and not discuss individual children or adults.

Decisions will be made by a majority vote of the representatives. If the vote is tied, the chair will have the sway vote.
